Which surcharges still apply?

Card surcharges on eftpos, Mastercard, Visa and American Express payments are banned from 1 October 2026. The ban does not cover weekend surcharges, public holiday surcharges or service fees, so those can still appear on your bill. Venues that add them must say so clearly, usually with a note on the menu. Sunday and public holiday surcharges are where most of the extra cost comes from, and they vary a lot between venues in the same street, so check before you book.
